October Activities
The theme this month is RESPECT. Students will develop skills over time through practice and repetition. These weekly lessons provide integrated teaching and learning so that all aspects of language are related and in context. Using a spiraled approach to teaching students will learn a variety of skills which are revisited throughout the year as they master different skills and goals within their literacy journey to become stronger readers and writers.
Week #1 – Orange Shirt Day
Week #2 – The Little Yellow Bottle by Angèle Delaunois
Week #3 – Lotus and Feather by Ji-li Jiang
Week #4 – Red by Michael Hall
Weekly Differentiated Readings
In each package, there are 4 different texts that can be used for shared, guided or independent reading. Each text is provided at three different reading levels from grade 3-6. With this resource, you can assign the same story for many different students who are all reading at different levels.
Original Differentiated Reading Texts Included in October:
- The Haudenosaunee – People of the Longhouse
- Children of War – The Worldwide Impact
- The Ugly Duckling
- Juanita’s Day Back
✍ With ‘Ignited Literacy’ your students will finally cheer when it is language arts instead of groan. And you as the teacher will have a solid plan to teach language, and fit it all in. ✍
