Do you have a plan for your guided reading this year? Do you know how to prepare your students for it?

I know that sometimes as teachers we guilt ourselves if we can’t get guided reading started right away, so I want to lift some of that burden from your shoulders. Guided reading doesn’t need to start right away, and I’m going to tell you why in this episode.

I want to walk you through my plan to get guided reading started in your classroom as soon as possible in a way that’s easy and attainable for you and your students. I know you have students with different reading abilities and you need a plan that works for everyone.

In this episode, you’ll learn how to set up your guided reading, prepare your students for guided reading, and assess your students during guided reading time.

In Today’s Episode We Discuss:

  • Why guided reading shouldn’t necessarily start right away
  • How to set your class up for success with guided reading
  • Establishing rules, routines, and expectations
  • Teaching your students to work independently
  • Using a differentiated text so that you have one text for different reading levels
  • How to structure-guided reading sessions
  • Assessing students in the moment to reduce the amount of work you have to take home

I hope this episode gives you some ideas to simplify your guided reading and make it a better experience for you and your students.

Planning your guided reading doesn’t have to be stressful. In fact, it shouldn’t be.
